INTRODUCTION
Coach Education at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa is
designed to provide students with a range
of skills to prepare them for a career in
coaching, teaching,fitness and sports related fields. The
course is practically orientated and
introduces the students to a broad range of
sports and fitness modules which may
enable them to further specialise their area
of expertise. Students also have the opportunity to get the coaching badges from the relevant coaching bodies.

Having successfully completed 1st year, qualified students have the option of going on to Year 2 of Coach Education or applying for a place in Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. Places are limited and entry into the Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is based on academic performance and on interview. Students also have the opportunity to apply for the NCEF Fitness Instructors Award at the start of year 2.

SPECIAL FEATURES
The college has a large well equipped
gymnasium for resistance and cardiovascular training. A large sports hall is also located on site for indoorsports. A top grade ful size all-weather pitch along with soccer and gaelic pitches are also located on the college grounds.There
are facilities for resistance training, tennis,
badminton, indoor hockey, indoor football,
volleyball and basketball. It has two full-size
tennis courts and
has access to a 25 metre swimming pool
nearby. It also has the use of lecture
facilities and computer facilities in the
college.

NCEF Conversion Course is expected to be offered to students who obtain the following criteria at a cost of €815 (May 2011 price).
CRITERIA: Successfully completion of all three modules: 1) Occupational First Aid 2) Exercise and Fitness 3) Anatomy and Physiology
PRIORITY will go to second year students.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Students gain hands-on experience coaching both outside and within the college to a variety of age groups and disciplines.

FURTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
P.E. Teaching in UCC- Coach education has a direct ink with UCC and is the course most suited to P.E. teaching.
HND in Sports and Exercise Science.
Sports and Leisure courses in IT's esp Cork, Tralee and Waterford.
NCEF Gym Instructor.
Specialist professional courses in practical areas through relevant coaching bodies.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Places are awarded on suitability.
A leaving Certificate or equivalent is required. Experience in the coaching field is viewed positively.
