DURATION
One year full time course
INTRODUCTION
This course has been designed to provide academically focused students with an opportunity to progress in education while pursuing a career in soccer and the leisure industry. Suitable candidates will get the opportunity to gain the necessary coaching qualifications to seek work in Ireland and abroad. Strength and conditioning modules along with technical skill will be monitored closely as students progress through the course. The syllabus will cover a broad range of theoretical and practical modules designed for the students to advance into higher education.
Students will also have the opportunity to access our U.S.A. scholarship programme and sit their S.A.T.s provided they meet the essential criteria outlined at the interview stage. Successful students, both academically and technically, may travel to the USA with the college and get the chance to show their soccer talents to a number of university coaches.

Prospective students should be aware that this course is physically demanding, and should satisfy themselves that they possess the necessary physical attributes and psychological skills to undertake it.
Further / higher educational opportunities
Students who achieve the required standards will have a number of options in Year 2.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants who achieve a Leaving Certificate (five passes in ordinary papers) which must include Maths and English.
- Mature applicants (over 21 years) without these entry requirements will be considered on the basis of experience and overall coaching/technical ability. Places are limited and will be allocated on the basis of suitability at the various stages of interview.
Students must provide their leaving certificate results or pre leaving certificate results at interview.
Where a student did not complete the Leaving Certificate their Junior Certificate results will be sufficient.
Interview Requirements
The interview process will consist of 5 elements:
- Pass interview with course directors
- Pass physical fitness testing (PFT)
- Pass soccer skills practical
- Provide doctors medical clearance (at interview)
- Provide letter of recommendation from recognised club (at interview)
PFT will consist of the following tests
- Cardiovascular fitness test
- Upper body endurence / strenght test
- Speed test 10/20m
- Trial game & technical ability

NCEF Conversion Course is expected to be offered to students who obtain the following criteria at a cost of €795 (May 2012 price).
CRITERIA: Successfully completion of all three modules: 1) Occupational First Aid 2) Exercise and Fitness 3) Anatomy and Physiology
PRIORITY will go to second year students.
