INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly more aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Together with the dramatic increase in the amount of leisure time available worldwide, this has been the cause of the development of a whole service industry. The Leisure and Recreation Management course at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa provides students with a broad range of practical skills and increases their prospects for employment in the industry.

Having successfully completed 1st year, qualified students have the option of going on to Year 2 of Leisure and Recreation Management or applying for a place in Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. Places are limited and entry into the Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is based on academic performance and on interview.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The college has a large well equipped gymnasium/sports hall facility on site. There are facilities for resistance training, tennis, badminton, indoor hockey, indoor football, volleyball and basketball. It has several playing pitches. It has access to a 25 metre swimming pool nearby. It also has the use of lecture facilities and computer facilities in the college. Guest lecturers from specialist areas e.g. NCEF, F.A.I., are also used in the delivery of course material.

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Each student will get practical experience while working in areas such as leisure centres, retail outlets and coaching. Relationships can be built up between employers and students which can lead to full-time employment on completion of the course.

Leisure Attendants, Duty Managers, Leisure Centre Managers, Merchandising, Lifeguard, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Professional Coaching.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate, L.C.A. or equivalent. All participants are interviewed and places are awarded on suitability.

    National Advanced Certificate FETAC Level 6 in Leisure Management
  • National Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (University of Limerick)
  • Personal Training Stage 2 (University of Limerick)
  • ILAM - Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • ILAM Diploma in Leisure Management
  • Pool Lifeguard (Irish Water Safety)
