DURATION
One Year Full Time (with option of second year)

INTRODUCTION

This course will provide specialised studies directly relevant to working in costume and wardrobe design for stage and screen. It will greatly assist students in making an immediate contribution to employment and provide skills as a basis for future studies.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Supervised work placement with local, national and visiting international theatre companies. Hands on opportunities at Cork Opera House, Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork Arts Theatre and Film companies. Students will design all college Theatre Course productions and outreach work. Students are assigned to the makeup crew for one of the csnDRAMASK productions during the semester.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates of this course will be able to seek employment with professional theatre companies, film companies, and theatre venues, as wardrobe assistant, costume designers and make-up artists. Our 'Professional Practice' training classes will equip students to consider a variety of options and our direct links into the industry allow us to create interview opportunities for students.

 

FURTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Students will assume an internship in their second year as part of their studies for the BTEC National Diploma in Technical Theatre. Successful students may go on to Higher Education Courses at Institutes of Technology. Places are available through the Higher Education Links Scheme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Generally Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent. Mature students with/without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply. All applicants will be interviewed and places awarded on suitability. A background or interest in art theatre production would be an advantage.

CERTIFICATION

• National Certificate FETAC (NCVA) Level 5
• BTEC Professional Diploma in Costume Management
