INTRODUCTION
Advances in computer technology continue to provide job opportunities for IT technicians skilled in the installation, repair and maintenance of IT equipment. Networked computer systems require individuals who can provide an efficient level of IT support to counter the threat of spam, phishing, virii and malware compromise by computer hackers. This course is designed to provide the student with a solid foundation in all aspects of computer assembly, repair, software installation and support. The student will also learn how to design, build and secure computer networks. A key feature of this course is computer forensics and its role in developing the student's problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking entry to the first year of this programme would ideally have a minimum of a pass in Mathematics at Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate. Some experience with computers would also be desirable but is NOT a requirement. All prospective students MUST demonstrate an active interest in working with computers and understanding computer/network theory.
WORK EXPERIENCE
All students are expected to participate in mandatory work placement in a relevant industrial or commercial environment. Note: It is the student's responsibility to secure a suitable work placement position.

FURTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
An optional second year may be provided for students who achieve an appropriate number of
merits and/or distinctions in the first year of this programme (subject
to successful interview and availability). The course offers limited provision for access to the CR310 'IT Management' course at CIT and other Institutes of Technology that recognise FETAC certification via the HELS.
