DURATION
One year full-time course (Landscaping Year 1)
INTRODUCTION
The Horticulture Industry continues to develop in positive fashion
offering well paid employment in a challenging marketplace, where
environmental awareness and quality of produce and services are
the major issue
of concern to customers. The Horticulture Industry has been identified
by government and independent agencies as an area offering realistic
opportunities for increased expansion and sustainable job creation.
This
quality conscious industry requires a highly motivated, informed,
well educated and trained workforce.

- Landscape and Garden Design
- Horticultural Science
- Plant Identification and use
- Production of Horticultural Crops
- Computer and IT skills
- Communication skills
SPECIAL FEATURES
The college provides excellent training facilities, comprising
of sixteen acres of grounds, access to mature landscapes, a range
of national-award winning private gardens, quality industrial
landscapes, and commercial enterprises, large glasshouse/propagation
area, laboratories, tissue culture facility, library and IT resource
area.
WORK PLACEMENT
For the duration of the course, students are
provided with the opportunity to work with
a commercial enterprise for a minimum of
one day per week.
FURTHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Landscape Design, Construction and Maintenance, Year 2 continuation
course at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa. Diploma Course
at
Botanic Gardens, Kildalton and Warrenstown Horticultural Colleges.
Students reaching a high level of proficiency may, following interview,
be exempted from year 1 National Diploma Courses in Horticulture
at Writtle College, Essex. Horticulture Courses at Irish and other
European Universities. Horticultural Course and would be pleased
to hear from you personally if you have questions or would like
additional information.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate or equivalent standard with some practical
experience in horticultural works desirable. Mature Students are
welcome to apply for places on this course.
A number of places are reserved for students with experience
in the Horticulture Industry who may not have formal educational
qualifications.
