FETAC

The Further Education Training and Awards
Council’s mission is to make quality assured
awards in accordance with national
standards within the national framework,
creating opportunities for all learners in
further education and training to have their
achievements recognised, and providing
access to systematic progression pathways.
KEY NEW FEATURES OF FETAC
- Single statutory awarding body for
further education and training. FETAC
incorporates the certification work of
BIM, FÁS, NCVA, NTCB, and Teagasc.
- Standards for awards will be
determined by FETAC in
partnership with education, training
and industry
- Programmes in public and privately
funded education and
training will be validated
- Quality of programmes in public and
private education and
training will be monitored
- FETAC awards are placed within the
national qualifications framework.
This framework includes further and
higher education and training awards.
This will greatly extend opportunities
for access, transfer and
progression for all learners.

Further Education and Training Awards
Council
CITY & GUILDS
It gets its full name - City and Guilds of
London Institute - from being founded and
financed by the Corporation of the City of
London and some of the livery, companies
or guilds. City & Guilds is an independent,
non-profit making organisation operating
under Royal Charter.
City and Guilds schemes are available in
over 400 subjects, in most occupational
sectors and have come to be regarded as
the qualifications for working in industries as
varied as engineering and hairdressing,
catering and construction. In addition, City
and Guilds also offers certificates for
technical and leisure activities, for general
education and use in schools. Every year
there are 1.3m entries for C & G Awards.
There are currently 4500 centres worldwide.
City and Guilds awards Certificates and
Diplomas to candidates who have been
successful in all elements of the assessment
at a particular level and Records of
Achievement for success in a unit or
component.
INTERNATIONAL THERAPY
EXAMINATION COUNCIL
(ITEC)

ITEC, which celebrated its 50th Anniversary
in 1997, is an Independent Examining Body,
and has set the standards for the past 25
years having provided the syllabus originally.
It’s team of examiners and the James
Accreditation system makes certain that the
ITEC system is not being abused and assures
you of it’s vigilance and determination to
provide the finest and fairest examination
for students’ professional qualifications.
BRITISH HORSE SOCIETY (BHS)

The BHS British Horse Society as the
governing body of most Equestrian Sport in
Ireland and the U.K. maintains a register of
those qualified to teach riding both
competitively and in the leisure industry. It
holds exams at different times throughout
the year at BHS approved centres in both
England and Ireland.
The examination system it administers is
designed to meet the requirements of riding
instructors, groom's certificate, stable
management and horse care. It is based on
a modular system where students can start
at stage 1 and work up to stage 4 to stable
manager and to BHS fellowship. These
qualifications are recognised in a large
number of countries throughout the World.
BTEC
These are vocationally related qualifications
in the National Qualifications Framework in
the U.K. BTEC First Diplomas are at NQF
Level 5 providing the initial knowledge and
understanding for students wishing to
embark on further study at Level 3 (such as
BTEC National or NVQ) or a career in a
particular sector. BTEC National Diplomas,
Certificates and Awards are NQF Level 3
vocational qualifications which focus on a
occupational area specialism, providing the
appropriate skills and knowledge to enable
those achieving them to advance onto
HNDs, degrees or into the workplace.
Several courses in CSN are currently
preparing students for Higher National
Diplomas (HND).
