investment in state-of-the-
art IT resources. Currently, the college hosts in
excess of 150 personal computers that are available to students, as well as
a number of dedicated IT classrooms with multimedia-enabled desktops and printing/scanning facilities.
Each computer is furnished with a broad
cross section of industry
standard software running over Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows XP. Students may avail of Microsoft Office
2010, Autodesk 2010i, Visual Studio .NET, Sage and TasBooks Accounting software
amongst others. We also provide an extensive software range in cutting-edge multimedia packages,
e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sound Forge, StudioMax, Director and a
variety of audio/video developer applications. All our systems offer hard-wired and wireless
network connectivity to the highest
specifications.
The college networks currently operate over
a high-speed broadband connection utilising twisted-pair
Cat6 connectivity for smooth data transfers. Each network is connected to a number of dedicated centralised servers
managed by Windows 2008 systems. Our servers can deploy a trouble-free, centralised data access service and storage facility for all your academic work files.
At Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa the IT department also provide students with an educational webserver facility which offers a 'virtual learning environment' over
the college’s Moodle facility. This service is
especially useful for exchanging information and hosting/accessing classroom based activities. It also provides students with a forum for the college's various clubs and societies.
Printing facilities are provided over the college network via 6 monochrome A4 printers and 4 A3 colour printers. These allow students to produce hard copy documents in a fast manner with a professional finish.
Other peripherals include audio-visual equipment such as digital video camcorders, digital cameras, flatbed scanners, CAD plotters and data projectors.
Our two 'high-end' Cisco 2800 series routers boast 2 separate fibre-optic lines which offer a quality high-speed broadband connection, allowing students the luxury of a secure work area and very fast Internet access.
