DURATION

INTRODUCTION
This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of skills necessary for a career within the furniture industry and to meet the demand for quality furniture made from natural wood.

SPECIAL FEATURES
In the college workshop students have access to a large range of woodworking machinery both portable and floor standing and to up to date spraying facilities. Throughout the year field trips are organised to relevant exhibitions and seminars. The year also includes one or two talks by guest speakers invited from industry or academia.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Students will have the opportunity to work in the woodworking industry for one day per week throughout the course. Relevant disciplines include:

Second year option is subject to successful completion of first year.
The Professional Arts Students : Brendan Corcoran, Elisenda Caamano, Conor O’Keefe and Sandy Hyland were exhibiting at the prestigious Craft Cale at the Glucksman Gallery, UCC, Cork on the weekend of the 7th of November.
Elisenda Caamano and Sandy Hyland are also showing their work as part of the exhibition ‘Generations’ that is currently being held at the Crafts Council Gallery in Kilkenny. The exhibition which features selected works from Irish Design Institute Graduate Design Awards and the Irish Arts Review/Crafts Council of Ireland Emerging Maker Award opened on Saturday the 31st of October and will run until the 10th of January 2010.

Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Mature students are most welcome to apply. All applicants will be interviewed and places are awarded on suitability.

CAREER PROSPECTS
A number of career paths are open to graduates of this course:
