DURATION
One year full-time.
INTRODUCTION
The Art, Craft and Design course is an intensive one-year foundation
course that covers all the essential areas within Art and Design
practice. Drawing from observation is central to the
course, teaching students to observe and record from the world
around them. This helps develop creative thinking and design
skills. Students are also introduced to research, through the
use of sketchbooks. The course builds on basic skills and develops
the student's confidence in their own work. This approach leads
to the development of a strong and individual personal portfolio.
Students are introduced to all listed areas of study in the first
term. (See MAIN AREAS OF STUDY)
In the second term students may select their main subjects.
This choice is made with guidance through tutorial. This selection
helps students to both decide between career areas, and make well-informed
decisions when choosing a college for further study. It is essential
to have a good idea of your personal strengths before embarking
on three to four year course at
third level.
Many 3rd level art colleges run specialised Art OR Design courses
from first year onwards and so do not offer a wide range of
subject areas The Art, Craft and Design course is one of the longest
established art foundation courses in the country. We are proud
of our reputation for excellent practice, which is due in no small
part to the fact that all of our teachers are practicing artists
and designers. Our placement rate of students to their course
of choice is consistently excellent. A visit and talk can be arranged
for groups or individuals by phoning the course director at the
college.
