DURATION

INTRODUCTION

Digital media are changing the way we communicate, do business and entertain ourselves. This course provides students with the skills to develop content in this exciting area. We cover a wide range of disciplines from web design to 3D computer animation with an emphasis on good design. Students gain skills in leading industry computer packages such as:

  • Photoshop
  • After Effects
  • Dreamweaver
  • Flash
  • 3DS MAX
  • Pro Tools

Year one covers a broad range of skills in computer graphics, video and animation. Each student designs and produces their own web site and collaborates in the production of a group interactive multimedia project.

Year two focuses on advanced interactive authoring, 3D modelling and animation and motion graphics. Students also learn to produce web sites with advanced functionality such as CMSs (Content Management Systems) and learn how to prepare for the latest developments in web technology such as HTML5 and CSS3.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates have a comprehensive set of skills in designing for screen. This can include the creation of graphics, animation and video for the web, television, DVD/CD ROM and film. The widespread adoption of broadband Internet connectivity in the next few years will create a demand for sophisticated interactive content. We provide students with cutting edge skills to meet that demand. In addition, students may find employment in computer games design, 3D graphics and computer based training.

Multimedia Graduate in VFX

Multimedia Graduate Iva Trajkovic has recently landed a job with one of the world's top visual effects and post-production companies Framestore CFC. After completing her BTEC Higher National Diploma at CSN in 2007, Iva went on to do a one year BA top up course in Bournemouth. She was then accepted onto the prestigious MA in Digital Effects in Bournemouth University and from there was taken on by Framestore as a junior compositor. Iva was introduced to compositing and 3D as part of her BTEC HND using software like 3DS Max & Combustion. Since starting the job last October Iva has already chalked up credits on the forthcoming Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang

FURTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Students who successfully complete the HND in Multimedia may apply to a number of UK colleges to study for one additional year to gain a BA degree in Multimedia. Graduates may also apply to transfer into 2nd year of the CIT degree in Multimedia.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate or equivalent with relevant experience in Art or Design. The course is also suitable for professional graphic designers wishing to acquire proficiency in interactive design and motion graphics. All prospective candidate will be interviewed and places awarded on the basis of suitability and portfolio.
