Student Testimonials

Celia Murray

"I have just completed Access with Design 2 year part-time course having been away from education and the work force for over 23 years. It has been a life changing course for me.

The encouragement, supervision and dedication of all my tutors has helped me achieve things I never believed I could.

I have so enjoyed the thrill of the exhibitions and am still amazed at the amount of effort and work put in by the college staff and students to make these events such a success.

Access with Design has gently led me back into Education and has been such a positive step towards future employment.  I have applied to the Crawford Institute of Art and Design, wishing to complete the honours degree course with a view to pursuing Art Therapy as a career, thus uniting my previous profession of Psychiatric Nurse with my current education.

These aspirations are only possible thanks to Colaiste Stiofan Naofa, this fantastic course, and of course the wonderful dedication of the Art Department Team."

"Having completed the Access with Design course at CSN I would like to thank my tutors, the administrative staff and the crèche staff of the College. This experience has been most positive both educationally and personally. It has introduced me to exciting facets of art that were new to me, I gained experience and confidence, learned new techniques and made good friends on the course, this has been an all-round positive experience.

I look forward to September 2010 when I begin my Creative Ceramics course at CSN with a view to application at the end of this academic year to the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork where I hope to complete a degree in Art. "

"For me going back to education was a big challenge. After the Access with Design course I was able to complete a full time course in Furniture Design and a course in Home decoration and Trompe l'oeil. I am now learning to paint in an art studio in Carrigaline still using that part of my brain which was dormant for so many years and awaken during the two years course of Access with Design."

"Back in September 2004 I got an opportunity that would change and enhance my life for ever.  The Access with Design course was a wonderful reintroduction to the world of education.  I gained new skills such as print-making, textile art and even a little bit of jewellery making, as well as hugely improving on my drawing and painting skills.

The course also entailed communications.  It was the first time I ever did a presentation, a rather daunting prospect at the time but it was of huge benefit to me.  The encouragement and support from the tutors was fantastic.  They encouraged me to do the Creative Textiles Course in CSN (2006-2007)  It did not stop at that my tutors or rather my mentors, Debbie Godsell and Jenny Monks encouraged me to apply for The Crawford College of Art and Design.  They helped and advised me to prepare for the interview.

I have now completed my second year in the CCAD, the first year I did part-time.  I have learned so much here, but frequently dip into my 'box of skills' that I learned in CSN.  I still meet some of my fellow students that I met in CSN and some of them are in the Crawford College of Art with me.  My time in CSN was just fantastic and I will never underestimate its worth."

"I would have to say that educationally the course opened up new areas in Print, Drawing and Combined Materials. This has deepened my understanding of techniques and materials.  As a result, I now look at displays, designs or exhibitions in a new light.

With regard to Embroidery, this has allowed me to break out of the constraints of the more formal or traditional skills I had learned. The Colour and Light module opened up and developed my understanding of colour and through the colour wheel; I now incorporate this in my choice of materials and fabric as a quiltmaker.

The course had a positive affect on my personal development.  It opened my mind to the possibilities that are available to further develop these skills.  I felt energised, encouraged and enthusiastic at year end and this has led to me attending the Textile Art classes. "
